Blogger, author and rhymester who likes to find the humour in life.
Author: Judy E Martin
Hello, and thanks for stopping by. I am Judy, in my (very) early fifties and decided that life definitely gets more interesting as it goes on!
I am a wife and a mum and have just finished University as a Registered Nurse, after having worked as an Associate Practitioner in the NHS. I am also a poet and the author of my debut book, 'Rhymes of the Times.' I love to laugh, and I love rhyming words too, so I joined the two together, and my book was born. I am currently working on another book in the series also.
I am a prolific blogger and enjoy writing funny stories, anecdotes, and anything really that takes my fancy.
As part of my birthday present, a relative has booked us a night at a lovely hotel in Sandwich which is not that far away. What made me laugh, though is that the name of the village is Ham! Hmmmm. wonder what the menu is like?
For this week’s Writepiration Challenge Sacha has asked us to write about ‘Utopia’ and what it means to us.
I actually struggled with this, as although the idea of Utopia is brilliant in theory, I am not sure it would actually be that wonderful in reality. A case of being ‘careful what you wish for’ comes to mind!
I can hardly believe how quickly these weeks are flying past! Here we are, Friday again and I have hardly had time to catch my breath! I have had rather a busy week what with one thing and another but have still found some wonderful posts for you to devour!
Please do go and visit these blogs to see all the other brilliant posts they have written, you certainly don’t want to miss out!
Linda G Hill Linda’s blog has all sorts of goodies on offer, she does ‘One-Liner ‘ Wednesday.’ Stream of Consciousness’, and has just finished running ‘Just Jot it January’ Challenges. I love Linda’s clever use of language, and this post illustrates it perfectly.
Fill Your Own Glass A very topical post that actually many of us can relate to. Karen always puts things into perspective, and I love her way of thinking!
Hummingbird Redemption This was a lovely post by Raphaela. This lady is absolutely amazing, and I love her fortitude and strength!
So although there are only three posts, I am sure you will find plenty more to keep you occupied on each and every one of these brilliant blogs! Enjoy!
Today we are concentrating on words for the Duchesse’s Great Book of Lists. As you know, I love words, normally the wackier the better. However, today I will be concentrating on words that matter. This prompt was suggested by the lovely Rosema who wanted us to think about words that have had some kind of positive impact in our lives. words that have given us encouragement helped us when we were down or propelled us forward. Words that matter, indeed. Here are some of mine that come to mind…
You are a valued member of our team Jude, and I just want you to know that. This was said to me just today actually by one of the senior nurses on my team. It really meant a lot to me hearing that, as I always try to work hard, so it is lovely to feel that it is appreciated.
I love you, Mama. Whenever Miss Haps says this, it really melts my heart. We have our ups and downs and because of her Asperger’s, she can be extremely blunt, which can be very hurtful at times, so when I hear this, it always lifts me up and keeps me going!
You look pretty today. Occasionally I do actually make an effort to look nice, and sometimes Mr Grump notices! It is always lovely getting compliments and it gives me just a little extra boost!
Believe in yourself, and if at first you don’t succeed then try, try again. This really is something that I try and remember. It is surprising how many things I have achieved that I had never dreamed I would be able to do. Alright, I may not be the best writer, poet, seamstress, cook or even the best mum, but I try! I get it wrong probably more times than I get it right, but I don’t give up. I am very determined that I will succeed, and that is because I believe that I can do it.
Although there are probably plenty more examples of words that matter, these are the ones that immediately spring to mind as being important to me.
Welcome to a Wednesday, and my chance to showcase a word (or in today’s case, words) that do not get enough of an airing. They are weird, wonderful or just downright wacky. Now today I have decided to indulge in a bit of juvenile humour to celebrate the fact that despite just turning 50, I am still young at heart!
The words I have chosen are still used, especially in my house as I do not like some of the alternatives (well at least as far as Miss Hap is concerned)! I think our American friends use the expression to mean something else, so it is even more amusing when I hear it!
Blow off. Yes this is to let rip, or let one off, you know when your nan walks around the supermarket and surreptitiously lets off a couple of squeaky ones, then looks around to see who the culprit is, type of word. It is farting and fluffing, trumping and trumpeting, bottom burping at its finest.
It is the sudden stench that hits you when you realise you have been hit by the silent but violent attack. Parping and puffing, passing wind, and having a bit of gas!
One thing for sure, it always makes me giggle when I hear it!
Well done to Hugh for some fantastic timing here! For his weekly photo challenge, he has chosen ‘love’ as the theme this week.
I have been overwhelmed with love today, and I am touched almost beyond words. As you may know, it is my 50th birthday today. Now I am a quiet kind of a girl and for me, it was about sharing the day with family. I come from rather a large family so was not able to spend it with everyone, plus one of my nieces is expecting her first child any day (it is overdue now), so she is ‘waiting it out’ at home!
Anyway, as I was getting ready for a girly breakfast with Miss Hap, my two sisters mum and one of my nieces we took a couple of selfies of course (I am nothing if not a cool mum, well in my head anyway)!
Cool mum alert!
Poor Roxy got squashed!
We went off to have a rather posh fry up in a lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. My younger sister also shares her birthday with me but is two years younger, so we took some time opening our presents before breakfast. It was such a beautiful day that we sat outside after breakfast, enjoying the sunshine.
One of my great presents
Lovely ladies, big sis and neice (little sis’s daughter)
Sitting in the sunshine
Finally, it was time for the cake! Actually, we were all too full to have any, but here is the cake in all its glory
Boobylicious!
As my sister whose birthday it also was, made me this cake I felt it only fair we shared it so we had a boob each!
The rest of the day was spent with my sister-in-law, and then Mr Grump barbecued some steak (any excuse to fire up the BBQ), for a gorgeous dinner which my niece joined us for. All in all, the perfect day for me.
Not only that, but I was shown so much love and good wishes from our lovely blogging community and blogging family, that I feel truly blessed. Thank you all so much.
Oh, and my motto today was ‘still got it at fifty, even if I didn’t have it to start with!’
I have just been trying to freshen up my blog, sorting out bits and pieces and I noticed that I seem to be missing something, yes a few blogs.
For some reason, WordPress has unfollowed me from some blogs that I regularly follow. I don’t know when this happened exactly as I am a bit behind with reading anyway. Has anyone else had this happen to them lately?
I have just refollowed seven blogs I realised had gone and hopefully that is it now. It does make me cross when this happens though.
This is what I thought about turning fifty nearly a year ago, Well the big day is TOMORROW! How the time has flown. My last few hours of being in my forties and I am feeling all fluttery about being fifty, but still intend to be fabulous!
After reading a post today on Inventing Real Life about whether or not a woman is ‘invisible’ once they get to the age of fifty, it got me to thinking….
I am less than a year away from the big five-o myself (sob), and I am already having mixed feelings about it. Originally I thought how lovely it would be to have a big party to celebrate the occasion. It would be a great excuse for a get-together and some cheesy music to get everyone up and dancing,
Despite my two left feet, a bit of 80s music will have me heading for the dance floor and strutting my stuff, especially if there is mostly only family there to witness my humiliating ‘moves’! This is where it comes in handy having such a large clan, it is not that difficult to fill up a function room!
