#JusJoJan 2018. January 21st Silence

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them.

Here is today’s prompt word.

Your prompt for January 21st, 2018, brought to you by the wonderful and talented Willow, is “Silence.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Willow at her blog, “Willowdot21” to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://willowdot21.wordpress.com/

I like a bit of silence at times, mainly when I am reading. In fact, if there is a lot of background noise then I can’t really concentrate, and I have to go back to it later when it is quieter. It is a similar story when I am trying to write. I can ‘tune out’ a little bit, but I much prefer a bit of peace and quiet, which is often why I enjoy the early mornings before anyone else gets up.

I often find that if I am in a room with lots of people and there are all sorts of noises going on, then I find it difficult to have a conversation as I can’t hear properly. All of the sounds seem to mingle into one, and I have to keep asking people to repeat themselves which is not great. Either that or I try and interject a few “yesses”  and nodding hoping they are in the right places! I am sure some people must think I am a bit odd or even worse, rude, but it is not intentional.

Having said all that, I hate awkward silences just as much if not more. Quite a few years ago now, I embarked on a bit of online dating, where I met several ‘interesting’ characters to say the least. One of these was a lovely guy who I met up with at an Indian restaurant around 6 pm. He had driven quite a way to meet up and appeared very pleasant when we introduced ourselves.

The restaurant was empty, just us two and a few members of staff who of course, outnumbered us. I know the restaurant wasn’t in the town centre, but I thought it would be busier than it was. I did attempt to make conversation as much as possible as he lapsed into silence, but it was embarrassing as the staff were hovering nearby waiting to cater to our every need. It was apparent we were on a date, I am sure and when the food came, we fell on it gratefully. It was one of the most awkward dates that I ever went on. We were both shy and would try blurting out something random to make conversation, (usually at the same time), then another deafening silence would ensue until one of us plucked up some courage to think of something else to say.

All of this to the amusement, no doubt of the waiting staff. It was odd really as once I get going, I am generally ok, but my mind just went completely blank.  Eating in total silence with just the scraping of cutlery against china and a bit of background music, was almost as bad, but at least neither of us made any horrible squelchy eating noises!

I don’t know what’s worse!

#JusJoJan and #SoCS 2018 January 20th Occasionally

Linda’s Just Jot it January and Stream of Consciousness post for today is a little different as you will see from the rules below. I always enjoy a challenge and look forward to seeing where this post goes.

Without further ado, here is today’s prompt.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “oc.” Find a word that starts with “oc” and use it in your post. Bonus points if you start and end with your post with an “oc” word. Have fun!

Occasionally, I struggle to think of something to start me off with these posts. My poor brain is still a little fogged with this horrendous cold that I have which doesn’t help either!

I have got my fan on full blast pointing at my face to try to cool myself off as I feel I am coming up to the boil and will spill over if not careful. Having said that, in a few minutes I am sure I will get freezing cold, put my dressing gown on and wrap up in a blanket! Still, at least I am not delirious and am hopefully making sense!

The full might of what I thought was just a horrendous cough and sore throat has now hit, and I have the snotty, sneezy nose to go with it and the aching bones too. As you can tell, I am feeling pretty sorry for myself. It doesn’t help that I have not slept properly for the last few days either so I am feeling a bit crabby, to say the least.

No bonus points for me either as I am fresh out of ‘oc’ words to finish up with.

Happy Saturday, Everyone!!

#JusJoJan 2018. January 19th Darkness — January 19, 2018

#JusJoJan 2018. January 19th Darkness

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them.

Here is today’s prompt word.

Your prompt for January 19th, 2018, brought to you by my dear friend and fellow Canadian, Kerry, is “Darkness.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Kerry at her blog, “Her Headache,” to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://kkherheadache.wordpress.com/

I have never been keen on darkness. I like to know that there is just a little bit of light somewhere, nearby, such as the soft glow of a lamp, or maybe a chink of the landing light showing through at night. Being in a room that is pitch dark actually makes me feel dizzy and disoriented, not to mention uneasy.

The dark mornings and evenings at the moment are somewhat off-putting, Going to work in the darkness and coming home in it makes me feel rather downhearted. I look forward to the spring when the warmer, lighter and sunnier days appear. They really do make me feel energised!

#JusJoJan 2018. January 18th Revolt — January 18, 2018

#JusJoJan 2018. January 18th Revolt

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them.

Here is today’s prompt word.

Your prompt for January 18th, 2018, brought to you by the lovely Sandra, is “Revolt.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Sandra at her blog, “What Sandra Thinks” to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://whatsandrathinks.com/

I think my body has had enough of being stressed and has decided to revolt. I started feeling a little grotty after my night-shift on Monday night, and have continued to feel progressively worse. I now have a barking cough that is so forceful, it almost makes me sick. Of course, I have a lovely sore throat and chest to accompany it too.

How revolting!

#JusJoJan and #1LinerWeds 2018. January 17th Passed — January 17, 2018

#JusJoJan and #1LinerWeds 2018. January 17th Passed

Today we have the combination of Linda’s Just Jot it January and One-Liner Wednesday. I am going to keep it pretty short and sweet.

I’ve passed!!!

Yes, the results were released today and I have passed the exam that I was dreading so much! I just have one more to go next week and that is it as far as exams and assignments go. In fact, after a few more weeks on this placement and a week at a placement doing voluntary work, at the beginning of March, and that is the end of my first year at Uni. I am absolutely bloody knackered!

#JusJoJan 2018. January 16th Contemplation — January 16, 2018

#JusJoJan 2018. January 16th Contemplation

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them.

Here is today’s prompt word.

Your prompt for January 16th, 2018, brought to you by the multi-talented Cheryl, is “Contemplation.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Cheryl at her blog, “The Bag Lady” to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://rugby843.blog/

Contemplation sounds such a relaxed and serene word. Thinking something over at leisure and pondering over possibilities. That is so far from how I am feeling at the moment!

We still haven’t had our results back from Uni for the dreaded Anatomy and Physiology exam that we took a couple of weeks before Christmas and it is driving me crazy! I thought they were due Friday (my mistake), then apparently they were due Monday, but now we have been told it is today!

The thing with me is that I am a  bit of a worrier, and I was crushed when I failed the first of my assignments which, ironically, I thought I might pass! This exam, despite revising manically, I am not sure that I remembered everything that I need to secure a pass.

I have been going over and over in my mind contemplating the outcome, and how I will stay focused on the degree, if I have to keep resitting and resubmitting.  Of course, there is a limit to how many times I will be able to do that before I will have to throw in the towel.

I have not slept the best due to the obsessive contemplation of my performance in exams and assignments.

Having just got home from a night shift, I am going to stay up a bit longer as apparently, the results will be released around 9.30. There is no way I will be able to sleep until after then!

#JusJoJan 2018. January 15th Justice — January 15, 2018

#JusJoJan 2018. January 15th Justice

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them.

Here is today’s prompt word.

Your prompt for January 15th, 2018, brought to you by the lovely Barb, is “Justice.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Barb at her blog, “Gallimaufry,” to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://barbct.wordpress.com/

As I may have mentioned before, I love the Crime channels and often watch them when I have some free time. I find it fascinating how the whole story unravels piece by piece. There may be many false leads, mistakes, and oversights along the way, but when it all comes together and not only is the mystery solved, but justice has been served on the perpetrator of the crime, it must be a bittersweet moment. Happiness that the criminal will be punished, but, particularly in more serious cases, sadness that people can commit such appalling acts towards one another. Some of the crime scenes are so horrendous that I don’t know how these amazing agencies carry on. Traumatised is an understatement as to how they must feel!

The various people that are involved in the process of solving a crime, often have painstaking and fiddly work to carry out, run into many obstacles along the way and probably get utterly despondent -yet they keep going. These people are there to find justice for the victim and that is what they are going to do, sometimes even if it takes years, (which it quite often does).

For some of the detectives, forensic officers and others it becomes a mission to bring a criminal to justice, especially when they know who did it but have to prove it. Their tenacity and dedication is something that I really admire, and no words of praise that I can offer would ever do them justice!

#JusJoJan 2018. January 14th Ultimatum — January 14, 2018

#JusJoJan 2018. January 14th Ultimatum

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them.

Here is today’s prompt word.

Your prompt for January 14th, 2018, brought to you by a new-to-me blogger, Itinerary Planner, is “Ultimatum.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Itinerary Planner at her blog, “Travel Itineraries: Travel the World for Less” (sounds good to me!) to read her post and say hi! Here’s her link:  https://traveltinerary.com/

Ultimatum. This is a pretty serious word, isn’t it?  It is like a laying down of the law, so to speak. “If you don’t buck up your ideas matey, then you can clear off and find somewhere else to live”, kind of thing. It makes me think of errant grown up children and husbands (I know, sometimes they seem one and the same thing)!

Ultimatum is reaching the end of the line, or the end of your tether, whichever is more appropriate;  something has got to give before the situation blows up. However, I do think that issuing an ultimatum can work in a positive way. I know I have been in a situation where I have had to ‘lay it on the line’ and demand that things change, and sometimes they have!

#JusJoJan and #SoCS 2018. January 13th When it Comes… — January 13, 2018

#JusJoJan and #SoCS 2018. January 13th When it Comes…

Linda’s Just Jot it January and Stream of Consciousness post for today is a little different as you will see from the rules below. I always enjoy a challenge and look forward to seeing where this post goes.

Without further ado, here is today’s prompt.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is as follows: read closely. When you’re ready to sit down and write your post, look to the publication (book, newspaper, permission slip from your kid’s teacher, whatever you find) closest to you, and base your post on the sixth, seventh, and eighth word from the beginning of the page. Enjoy!

The book that was closest to me ‘Critical Thinking Skills’ by Stella Cottrell and I chose the sixth, seventh and eighth words from the introduction, which are…’when it comes.’

When it comes to writing Stream of Consciousness posts,  I think I have got the technique pretty much off pat. I put this down to the fact that I write nearly all of my posts in this manner.

I like to write pretty much as I speak because I feel that it is friendlier and also gives you a little insight into my personality. As you can see from the choice of book that was closest to me, at Uni this style of writing certainly will not do, and I have to stop myself from being ‘too chatty’  and instead be more formal and professional. I need all the help I can get on that front, hence the reason for that book and several others being stashed in my desk, ready to be pored over when needed.

Stream of Consciousness writing gives me the freedom to let my thoughts flow and just go with them. However, there might be a downside to this as my thoughts may be a little jumbled or jumpy at times, which is, unfortunately, the way that I am, so there might be a bit of weaving around before I get to the point. I might not even get to the point if I go off on a tangent and think about something else which is often the way with these types of posts. As there is no editing allowed other than fixing typos, this may be a little confusing.

The fact that there is a prompt word with our Stream of Consciousness posts makes it more interesting, as I get to see how others have interpreted the same word in their posts. It is surprising when it comes to Stream of Consciousness just how many perspectives there are, and how diverse we are as writers and/or bloggers. That’s why I love them!

#JusJoJan 2018. January 12th Aggravate — January 12, 2018

#JusJoJan 2018. January 12th Aggravate

I hope that you are enjoying my posts from Linda’s Just Jot it January as much as I am enjoying writing them.

Here is today’s prompt word.

Your prompt for January 12th, 2018, brought to you by Fandango, is “Aggravation.” Use it any way you’d like in your post. And make sure you visit Fandango at his blog, “This, That, and the Other” to read his post and say hi! Here’s Fandango’s blog: https://fivedotoh.wordpress.com/

Some things that aggravate me:

  • Lateness. Either if something happens and I end up being late, or meeting someone who is late turning up!
  • Bad manners. That annoys me so much as it is so unnecessary. It doesn’t take much effort to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’
  • Entitlement. I get rather cross when people feel that the world owes them a living and they expect everything to fall into their lap without putting any effort in!
  • Liars. I understand the necessary little white lies on occasion, but some people lie about the most stupid things. I have to say that I lose a bit of respect for someone if they tell a lot of lies.
  • Unpleasantness. We don’t know what goes on in other people’s lives. A smile or a quick chat can go a long way to making a person who may rarely see anyone feel valued. Being grumpy or rude can make that same person feel worthless.

This list could go on and on, but I don’t want it to sound like I am moaning about everything and just being a grumpy old sod.

Oh, one more thing on the subject of things that aggravate me.  I don’t like it when my daughter shortens it to ‘agged’ or ‘aggy’ which seems to be all the rage at the moment!

Nor do I like the fact that I seem to be turning into my mother by the sound of the above!
