Wacky Word Wednesday

Well, here we are, Wednesday again and ready to dig up and dust off a weird, wacky or wonderful word to share with you. Now, I have been a bit naughty this week (no, that THAT kind of naughty), and nicked a word from my lovely friend David. I have to admit to not having heard of this word before, so I shall be educating myself, as well as hopefully introducing some of you to a new word too!

Blatherskite.  Well, this is a babbling and blubbering kind of a word. The kind of gobshite that talks a load of gibberish, but loves the sound of their own voice! The blusterer  and boaster, pontificating and prattling on despite the snores and groans from the unfortunate listeners!

This talking a load of twaddle, nattering on about nonsense, uttering unintelligibly, or even gabbling a load of gobbledegook! Sounds like me when I get nervous!

Wacky Word Wednesday

Keep Calm

Welcome to another Wacky Word Wednesday, where I get to feature a word that is weird, wonderful, or just downright wacky! Today I have a word that I use quite a  bit. as not only do I like the sound of it, but it is something that I always seem to be doing!

Faffing. This is a dithering and dallying kind of word. Procrastinating and pondering instead of just getting on with it! Mucking around and all that malarky, putting off the important stuff, preferring to  prat about with the piffling things.

It is fussing and fiddling, bumbling and fumbling about. Something that I seem to excel in!

Wednesdays are one of my favourite days, as it when I get the chance to dig up  weird, wacky or just plain wonderful word and give it an airing. This week’s word is one that I always associate with the good old British ‘Carry on Films’ of which of course, I am a fan!

They were packed with double entendres and innuendo, even the character’s names were dodgy most of the time. That is why they appealed to me so much. anyway, without further ado here is the word in question!

Saucy. Bawdy and ribald are all about this word, brash and brazen, even flirty and fresh. This is not a shy word, oh no, more of a salacious and smutty, improper or even indecent kind of invitation where you might get more than you bargained for!

This is also the type of word that is cheeky and cocky; the smart-arse that knows it all, being disrespectful and defiant. The sassy little sod that has an answer for everything and has no respect for authority!

Grotty!

I’ve hardly had time to blink, and it is Wednesday again! Time to unearth a wacky, weird or wonderful word  and give it an airing.

The word I have chosen for this week is to me, a wonderful word despite its meaning! It has that quality to it that makes it funnier,  the more it is said with derision; or at least, I think so!

Grotty. This is a second-rate, shabby kind of a word, a down at heel dive, or a sleazy shithole of a place. It’s cheap and nasty, grimy and well, pretty grim actually!

It is the kind of pub you go to where you wipe your feet on the way out! (I have seen my fair share of these over the years)! The tatty old threadbare carpet, and the crusty old curtains that are well past their prime. The chipped woodwork, and stained surfaces that you really wouldn’t want to become too well-acquainted with. The good old spit and sawdust kind of a place that is a mainstay in most towns, that despite its appearance is usually a fun place to be!

Wow,  it is Wednesday already! This must mean that it is time for me to dig out a wonderful, weird or just plain wacky word to have some fun with. This week’s word is actually a regular part of my vocabulary. Although it has quite a humorous sound to it, this word pretty much describes teenagers, or tweens, or kids, or husbands…pretty much everybody at times!

Stroppy. Oh, this is an obstinate and obstreperous word; moaning and moody, as well as cantankerous and crabby. The bad-tempered and sheer bloody-minded nature of this word can result in tears and tantrums, or possibly even fights and fisticuffs!

It is the sulky and sullen expression of the troubled teenager, the grumpy and grouchy face of the harassed husband, and the annoyed and angry face of the wife. Wait a minute, that sounds like a typical Martin family outing!!!

Welcome to a Wednesday, and my chance to showcase a word (or in today’s case, words) that do not get enough of an airing. They are weird, wonderful or just downright wacky. Now today I have decided to indulge in a bit of juvenile humour to celebrate the fact that despite just turning 50, I am still young at heart!

The words I have chosen are still used, especially in my house as I do not like some of the alternatives (well at least as far as Miss Hap is concerned)!  I think our American friends use the expression to mean something else, so it is even more amusing when I hear it!

Blow off. Yes this is to let rip, or let one off, you know when your nan walks around the supermarket and surreptitiously lets off a couple of squeaky ones, then looks around to see who the culprit is, type of word. It is farting and fluffing, trumping and trumpeting, bottom burping at its finest.

It is the sudden stench that hits you when you realise you have been hit by the silent but violent attack. Parping and puffing, passing wind, and having a bit of gas!

One thing for sure, it always makes me giggle when I hear it!

Well,  here we are again for another Wacky Word Wednesday. This is where I rummage around for a weird, wonderful or wacky word that deserves to have another few minutes in the spotlight. The one that I have chosen today not only sounds great but also has an onomatopoeic quality to it, so you know exactly where you stand.

Gobsmacked. Oh,  this is a shocked and surprised word, the kind of reaction to some scandalous shenanigans! Amazed, astounded and utterly astonished, maybe even being rendered speechless! As my nan would have said, “you could have knocked me down with a feather!”

It is being flabberghasted, and floored, dumbstruck and thunderstruck, bowled over and blown away. A bit like I feel when Miss Hap tidies her room without being asked!

Welcome to another (rather late) Wacky Word Wednesday! This is my chance to find a wacky, weird or wonderful word to give another airing. Today’s word is one that is not used that often anymore, but it has a wonderful sound to it and trips off the tongue nicely.

Bodacious. The intrepid explorer going off into dangers unknown, courageous and confident, maybe even a little cocky at times. The dashing and daring hero, valiantly venturing on momentous missions to win the heart of his love.

It is notorious and noteworthy, lionhearted and lairy, ballsy and brassy! Someone who is brave and bold, undaunted and unflinching about what is ahead. The kind of person handy to have around in a sticky situation, as they are gritty and gutsy and game for anything!

As I was writing this post, it came to me that ‘bodacious’ pretty much sums up the explorer Henry Worsley. Tragically, he died recently as he attempted to cross the Antarctic, solo and unaided. He was only thirty miles short before he became severely dehydrated and had to call for help. It was too late to save him.

He tried, though, and not only that,  raised a hell of a lot of money before he went,  for injured service men and women (he himself was a lieutenant colonel). An amazing adventurer, officer and gentleman who will no doubt, be sorely missed.

Well, is is Wednesday already and time for me to dust off another word that is weird, wonderful or just downright wacky! Today’s word is one of those rhyming pair words that I love so well. I don’t know what it is about rhyme, but it always brings a smile to my face. This word is still used, but not nearly enough in my opinion!

Fuddy-duddy. A bit of a stick-in-the-mud and old fart kind of a word is this one! The square, stuffed shirt, disapproving disdainfully of anyone that dares to enjoy themselves. It is the dull, drab dress so beloved of your maiden aunt, and her prim and proper manner to match.

The fussy old fogey that forgets it is ok to have fun sometimes,  or the party-pooper, jobsworth and general wet blanket that put a damper on things. It is the conventional, conservative person, upright and uptight!

Funny, as I always thought my parents were old fuddy-duddies until I became one myself!

Welcome to another Wacky Word Wednesday. I have a really great sounding word for you today, which is another one that always makes me smile when I hear it. I think it is a word that is still used quite a bit, I know I enjoy saying it when I get the chance!

Squabble. Now this is an argumentative type of word; a set-to or a scrap, perhaps a petty dispute or disagreement.  It makes me think of a couple of kids scrapping over  some sweets or rowing over the remote control.

It is a trivial tiff or a frivolous fuss about nothing. A storm in a teacup really, quibbling and quarrelling over minor matters!  Hmmm, a bit like me and Mr Grump when we bicker over whose turn it is to make the tea!
